Who Are We?

First Congregational Church, Lake Helen is a local church of the United Church of Christ, a denomination formed in 1957 from a merger of the Congregational Christian Church and the Evangelical and Reformed Church.

The Congregational Church was the Church of the pilgrims at Plymouth. The Evangelical and Reformed Church was formed by the wave of German immigrants that came to the United States in the mid 1700's and 1800's. Both had a long and illustrious history with formidable early leaders such as Henry Ward Beecher and Jonathan Edwards.

Education was a high priority for the churches of both heritages forming noted universities such as Harvard, Yale, Dartmouth, Heidelberg and Oberlin in Ohio.

We Continue to honor our rich heritage as we today seek to unite all people with God's Love.
